The helping hand of Federation extends beyond our community to reach Jews in Israel and 60 other countries. Your Federation donation brings assistance and hope to two million Jews around the globe--supporting our commitment to each other and to healing the world, tikkun olam.

 
With our partners in Israel, we are working to build and strengthen Israel through:

Helping Israel’s Neediest Citizens

  • Academic enrichment for students from disadvantaged families.
  • Programs for at-risk youth, including life-skill classes, tutoring and general social welfare programs.
  • Services to help the elderly age with dignity and the disabled live independently.
  • After-school programs and summer camps provide tutoring, recreation, and hot meals for school-age Ethiopian children.
  • Targeted assistance for at-risk population in the northern city of Afula. Learn more about PACT and Youth Futures in Afula. 

Support for New Immigrants

  • Vocational support
  • Hebrew language instruction
  • Providing basic household necessities
  • Coordinate reunions between Russian immigrant soldiers and their parents

Economic Development

  • Developing Beit Shemesh/Mateh Yehuda through Partnership 2000
  • School twinning
  • Supporting the development of the Negev and Galil communities

Israel & Overseas Experience and Travel

Emergency Response

During Operation Cast Lead in December 2008, Federation sponsored and provided emergency services including:

  • Equipment for bomb shelters (heaters, blankets, educational games).
  • Promoting better coordination among first responders, social service networks, and volunteers
  • Social services for the elderly, disabled, and new immigrants who live near the conflict zone
  • Respite experiences for over 23,000 children who live closest to the conflict zone

Federation is bringing Israel closer to Jews in the Greater Washington Area. 
Israel in DC programs connect our community with the people and land of Israel.

Student Exchange Impacts Local Teen
I think about this experience daily. I find it incredible that people who do not have the comforts my family enjoys were so generous not just with their things, but with themselves, and took in an American for a week when many people who have so much more would not necessarily be willing to do the same. I now consider these people part of my family and they consider me to be part of their family as well. READ MORE
