Description: Adat Shalom, a vibrant and creative Reconstructionist congregation in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks an individual who is a visionary educator and highly skilled administrator to direct educational programming for our 500 households. The person hired will have a unique opportunity to shape our current formal and informal educational offerings, and to provide leadership for the learning life of this community. The Director of Education works closely with the Torah School Board and Youth Committee, under the direct supervision of the synagogue Board. The Director is a vital member of the synagogue's senior leadership team along with the Rabbi, Cantor, and Executive Director. Torah school classes are held on Saturday morning and Sunday evening. Programming extends from preschool through high school age students. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for learning and teaching, extensive knowledge of Jewish thought and tradition, an understanding of effective teaching methodology and curriculum development, and an open and creative approach to education.

Desired Education Degree/Level: Other
Jewish Education: Masters Degree in Education, Judaic Studies, or Jewish Education or Rabbinic Degree preferred
Prior Experience: Desired professional experience and personal abilities include: ! Track record of successfully managing large education programs with proven administrative skills ! Strong communication and leadership skills; experience working with families and with highly involved lay leadership ! Responsibility for hiring, mentoring, training and supervising teachers ! Successful development and implementation of effective and innovative formal and informal Jewish educational experiences for children and adults ! Skilled in written and spoken Hebrew ! Experienced in writing and procurement of education grants ! Knowledge of Reconstructionist approaches to Judaism and pluralistic outlook preferred
